agb Environmental welcomes the launch of a new technical guidance website from the Environmental Agency (EA). The EA has recently moved to a new virtual home that includes a technical guidance page on the management of contaminated land.
The new technical guidance sums up how to investigate, assess and manage contaminated land risks. Although this information is not new, the guide is a useful frame of reference for developers, and will be a good support for agb Environmental with educating and working alongside clients.
With helpful documents, including model procedures for management of land contamination, guiding principles for managing and reducing land contamination and facts and figures about land contamination, the new site also helps guide developers on the requirements for risk assessments for a number of factors including water, groundwater and human health.
Focusing on the most popular guidance issued by the EA and other government departments, these documents have been collated so as to be available from one easy to use source.
Managing Director of agb Environmental, Alex Brearley, said: “It’s great to see the EA providing a useful, single portal for developers and technical specialists like agb Environmental to reference.
“Whilst there is no new guidance here, there are plenty of references to existing guidance which helps support our work and provides a useful background to our work for our clients. However, our greatest challenge is still how these guidance documents are applied across different Local Authorities.”
